OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The College Baseball Foundation announced the semifinalists for the 2025 Brooks Wallace Award on Wednesday, and Miami's Dillon Baker was named as one of 30 semifinalists for the award.
The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
The semifinalists were identified based on their combined offensive and defensive performances from this season. Finalists for the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award will be announced on June 4, with the 2025 winner to be announced later that month.
This week, Baker was selected First Team All-MAC as an at-large selection. Over the course of the regular season, Baker was a top performer in the MAC, ranking second in doubles (22), fifth in on-base plus slugging (1.103), fifth in slug percentage (.659), seventh in hits (70), ninth in runs (52), ninth in home runs (13), 11th in on-base percentage (0.444) and 14th in batting average (.341). The senior from Tampa, Fla. also leads Miami in at-bats (205) and ranks fourth in stolen bases (six).
The Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award was first awarded in 2004. Prior to 2009, the award recognized the national player of the year. For more information on the Brooks Wallace Award, visit the College Baseball Foundation website at www.collegebaseballhall.org.
