Martin Announces Additions to Coaching/Support Staff

 OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University head football coach Chuck Martin has announced seven additions to his coaching/support staff. Joining his team are Colt Arthur (Graduate Assistant), Johnny Aylward (Special Teams Coordinator), Lynn Davenport (Recruiting Assistant), Chris Hudson (Running Backs), Drew Martin (Director of Player Personnel), Zane Ries (Safeties) and Tyler Valentine (Director of Digital Video Operations). Martin also announced that Pat Welsh will coach tight ends and Andy Cruse will move over to coach wide receivers.

Johnny Aylward, Special Teams Coordinator
Aylward comes to Miami after spending the 2024 season as a wide receivers coach for Merrimack College. While with the Warriors, he developed the wide receiver position, but also was responsible for opponent defensive coverage reports and breakdowns. He was also a key contributor to third down game plans.

Prior to Merrimack he was an Offensive Line Graduate Assistant for the RedHawks for the 2023 season, helping Miami to a MAC Championship. Other than working alongside assistant coach James Patten, he was responsible for run-game and playbook visual drawings and broke down opponent front-seven film.

Aylward has also spent time at Notre Dame as a graduate assistant in 2022 and a Tight Ends Offensive Analyst from 2019-21.

Chris Hudson, Running Backs
Hudson, a 2020 Miami graduate and a former member of the football team, will coach running backs in 2025.

Hudson has served as a graduate assistant with the RedHawks' football program since 2023, working directly with the wide receivers. Not only did Miami play in back-to-back MAC title games during Hudson's tenure, Miami produced four different All-MAC performers at the wide receiver position. Hudson was also instrumental in the defensive scout team and helped with Miami's recruiting efforts.

Prior to Miami, Hudson was a wide receivers coach at Concord University in 2022-23, helping CU to a 9-2 record and the No. 3 offense in Division 2. He also spent time at Mount St. Joseph (2021-22) and Walnut Hills High School (2020).

Hudson completed his sports leadership and management degree from Miami in 2020 and earned one letter with the football team (2015) before suffering a career-ending injury.

Zane Ries, Safeties
Ries joins the Miami staff after spending the past two seasons as a defensive graduate assistant with the RedHawks. Ries worked directly with the linebacker group, while also coordinating the offensive scout team. He also assisted in the core four special team's units. Prior to working with the linebackers, Ries worked directly with the defensive line in 2023.

Prior to joining the RedHawks, Reis was a three-year starter at quarterback for Ohio Wesleyan. The two-time team captain also lettered for the OWU basketball team and was a member of the Miami football team in 2022.

Ries completed his special education degree from OWU in 2022 and his master's degree in sports administration from Miami in 2024.

Colt Arthur, Graduate Assistant
Arthur begins his first year as a graduate assistant with Miami. He spent the 2024-25 season as an offensive analyst with the RedHawks, working directly with the tight end position.
Prior to joining the RedHawks, Arthur spent two seasons at Trine University as an outside linebackers coach. He also spent the 2021 season with Anderson University as the wide receivers coach.
Arthur completed his special and elementary education degree from Trine in 2021 and was a member of the football team from 2017-2020.

Lynn Davenport, Recruiting Assistant
Davenport comes to Miami after spending the past two seasons as a recruiting analyst with the Cincinnati Bearcats. Davenport spent time recruiting both high school and transfer prospects. He also worked as a training camp intern with the Buffalo Bills in 2024.

Davenport earned in sport's administration degree from UC in 2022.

Drew Martin, Director of Player Personnel
Martin is in his first year as the Director of Player Personnel for the RedHawks.
A native of North Little Rock, Ark., Martin comes to Miami after spending the past two seasons on staff with the University of Memphis football team. He was Assistant Director of Player Personnel/Tight Ends Assistant in 2024 and was a student assistant in 2023, working with the defensive line and outside linebackers.
Prior to joining the staff, Martin was a member of the Tigers' football team from 2019-2023. The team went 33-14 during that span. He completed his business degree from Memphis in 2023.

Tyler Valentine, Director of Digital Video Operations
Valentine joins Miami after serving as the Assistant Director of Football Operations and Recruiting Video Coordinator at Cal Poly University the past two seasons. He helped manage the team's budget and coordinated all aspects of team travel. He also organized several aspects on the recruiting side, including unofficial visits, evaluations of prospects and the team's social media.

Prior to Cal Poly, Valentine was the Director of Football Operations/Video Coordinator for Marian University (2021-22). He also worked as a Scouting, Equipment and Video Intern for the Tucson Sugar Skulls in Tucson, Ariz.

Valentine earned his sports management degree from IU Indy in 2017.
