RedHawks Finish Raleigh Relays Strong

RALEIGH, N.C.-- Building on their solid performances throughout the first two days of the meet, the Miami Track and Field teams concluded the Raleigh Relays with their most impressive showing yet. Four different RedHawk student-athletes delivered performances that placed them inside the top 10 all-time in program history, with Ella Rigel setting a new school record in the women's hammer throw.

Next weekend (April 4-5), the RedHawks will stay in-state to compete at the University of Cincinnati's Oliver Nikoloff Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- On the field for the women, Rigel finished in third place in the women's hammer throw with a new PR and school record of 62.03 meters. Rigel beat her previous PR by nearly two meters, and she is now an entire meter ahead of Martha Szekely (61.00 meters in 2017).
- In the women's 800-meter run, Eve Traficanti was the highest placing RedHawk, as she won her section and came in 51st overall with a PR time of 2:10.52. Traficanti beat her previous time by nearly two seconds, and she is now eighth in Miami history for the women's 800-meter run. Avery Emerson also ran in the event, and she finished second in her section (57th overall) with a new personal-best time of 2:10.70. Emerson also beat her previous PR by nearly two seconds, and she is now ninth in school history for the women's 800-meter run. Nora Zubillaga finished sixth in her section and 97th overall in the 800-meter run, recording a season-best time of 2:13.41. Linda Conchetto also ran in the women's 800-meter run, and she placed 10th in her section (141st overall) with a new PR of 2:16.77. In just the second outdoor meet of her career, Conchetto beat the previous time that she set last week at the Blizzard Buster by more than six seconds.
- On the field for the men, Ben Riegel led the RedHawks in the men's hammer throw as he won his flight and finished 18th overall, achieving a personal-best mark of 57.17 meters. With this performance, Riegel beat his previous PR by nearly 3 meters, and he moves into eighth all time in RedHawk history for the event. Gabe Asbury placed third in his section (25th overall), matching his personal-best distance in the hammer throw of 53.35 meters. Owen Billeter also competed in the event, and he finished second his in his section (32nd overall) with 47.81 meters.
- In the men's 800-meter run, Vincenzo Matarazzo finished fifth in his section and 27th overall with a time of 1:50.38. Dominic Jackson also ran in the men's 800-meter, and he finished fourth in his section (38th overall) with a time of 1:50.80.
