- Miami got off to a solid start in the second half, with Tretter hitting a straightaway three-pointer and Gonzalez following with a traditional three-point play to cut the margin to 39-31. After four points from the Flashes, a Tretter three-point play brought Miami within 43-34 and sparked a 12-4 run. Ilse de Vries buried a triple from the corner in front of the RedHawks' bench to make it 47-43 with 14 minutes to play. Kent State used a pair of free throws with less than two seconds left to hold a 54-45 lead heading to the final quarter.
- A Chandler three and a Katey Richason reverse layup cut the deficit to 54-50 with 8:32 on the clock, but neither team would score for the next four minutes. After Tretter converted inside to make it 57-52 at the 2:52 mark, Kent State stretched the lead to double digits from there. Miami trimmed the margin to 66-61 with 10 seconds remaining on a step-through move by Chandler, but the RedHawks would get no closer.
