COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Two Miami University student-athletes were recognized today when the National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced its Players of the Week presented by KJ Branding. Ryder Thompson was named NCHC Defenseman of the Week and David Deputy was selected as the National's Rookie of the Week.
Thompson, a freshman from Russell, Manitoba, netted his first career goal Monday, producing the game-winner in Miami's 4-2 victory over Ferris State at the Great Lakes Invitational. Thompson added an assist, recording his first multi-point performance as a RedHawk, and was named the First Star of the Game. He finished with three points at the GLI, including an assist the previous day against Michigan Tech. Thompson is the first Miami blueliner to win NCHC Defenseman of the Week since January 2024.
Deputy, a freshman forward from Gurnee, Ill., collected two goals in Monday's third-place game, opening and closing the scoring in the victory over the Bulldogs. He tallied multiple goals in a game for the second time in his past four appearances and was named the game's Second Star. This is the second time Deputy has been honored as NCHC Rookie of the Week (Nov. 17-23).
Miami Hockey returns to action with a series at Arizona State Jan. 9-10. Puck drop on Friday, Jan. 9 is set for 9 p.m. ET in Tempe, Ariz.
