de Vries, Byers Named Miami Athletes of the Week

For their performances last week,Ā Ilse de VriesĀ and Brant ByersĀ are Miami's Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of Dec. 22.

Female Winner:Ā Ilse de Vries
In 24 minutes of play, Ilse de Vries had 20 points (career-high), five rebounds and four blocks (career-high) in a 66-50 win over Green Bay on Saturday afternoon. de Vries connected on 9-of-14 field goals and made two triples in the win over the Phoenix. Green Bay was coming off a five-point loss to No. 20 Washington. Miami improves to 4-0 at home this season. A sophomore forward from Groningen, Netherlands, she is studying Sales Management in the the College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science.

Male Winner: Brant Byers
Brant Byers led the Red and White to a 2-0 week in a pair of away contests, as the RedHawks are still undefeated at 12-0. Miami defeated Wright State 83-76 Tuesday night and Ball State 86-77 Saturday afternoon. Byers totaled 43 points (21.5/game), shot 12-of-18 from the field (66.7%) and knocked down 7-of-9 shots (77.8%) from the three-point line over the two games. He also totaled nine rebounds (4.5/game), three steals (1.5/game) and one assist (0.5/game) on the week. Byers started the week strong against the Raiders, setting a career-high 27 points after shooting 5-of-6 from the three-point line. He also added five rebounds and three steals on the night. Byers went on to record 16 points, four rebounds and one assist against the Cardinals.Ā A redshirt sophomore wing from Chambersburg, Pa., he is studying Small Business Management in the College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science.
