Mata Named MAC Defensive Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio– Miami's Berta Mata was named the MAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 27.
Mata organized a defense that completed its sixth MAC shutout of the year with an 8-0 victory over Longwood. Miami allowed just three shots all game with only one on goal and held the Lancers to three penalty corners. This rounded out a season where Miami allowed just 20 goals in 17 games. Additionally, Mata scored one goal and set up three more via three assists, breaking Miami's all-time single-season and career assist records. Mata continues to lead the MAC in assists and ranks second in the country in assists per game.
Mata and the RedHawks will return to action this Thursday, Nov. 6 as the No. 1 seed in the MAC tournament. The RedHawks will face the winner of No. 4 James Madison and No. 5 Central Michigan at 11:30.
