
Herbet, Gotkowski Named Miami Athletes of the Week

For their performances last week, Kaylin Herbet and Thomas Gotkowski are Miami's Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of Nov. 24.

Female Winner: Kaylin Herbet
Kaylin Herbet had a great week at the Miami Invitational, a meet that featured seven other schools. She finished first in the 200 IM (2:00.34), seventh in the 200 free (1:49.44), seventh in the 100 breast (1:03.02) and seventh in the 100 free (50.25). Additionally, she competed in five relays, helping the RedHawks take first in the 200 free relay, first in the 800 free relay, second in the 400 free relay, third in the 400 medley relay and sixth in the 200 medley relay. Herbet recorded times of 23.04 in the 200 free relay (leadoff leg), 24.96 in the 200 medley relay (fly leg), 49.70 in the 400 free relay, 54.72 in the 400 medley relay (fly leg) and 1:48.96 in the 800 free relay (anchor leg). A junior swimmer from Winter Springs, Fla., she is studying Journalism/Media and Communication and Humanities Engagement (certificate) in the College of Arts and Science.

Male Winner: Thomas Gotkowski
Thomas Gotkowski came off the bench to throw for 185 yards and one touchdown to lift Miami to a crucial 37-20 road win at Buffalo last Wednesday night. Gotkowski added 26 yards and a touchdown on the ground as the RedHawks became bowl-eligible for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons and kept their MAC title hopes alive heading into the final week of the regular season. A redshirt freshman from Indianapolis, Ind., he is studying Sport Management in the College of Education, Health and Society.
