OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University's Human Performance and Wellness department has hired Zahrea Gill. Gill will serve as an Assistant Athletic Trainer.
"I am thrilled to announce Zahrea Gill has joined the Wellness Services Team," said Assistant AD for Wellness Services Jennifer Beardslee. "Zahrea comes to us with a fabulous AT foundation from the University of Kentucky's Masters of Athletic Training Program. She is a very hard worker with an infectious personality. She has a very bright future in the athletic training profession."
Gill comes to Miami with a multitude of different experiences as a student in the athletic training field, such as with the University of Kentucky (2023-25), Lexington Fire Department (2024), Butler University (2024), Paul Laurence Dunbar High School (2024), Lexington Christian Academy High School (2024), Georgetown College (2023) and Eastern Kentucky (2019-22). While serving as a graduate student at Kentucky, she had the opportunity to work with the football and women's soccer teams, where she transported athletes to medical appointments, provided on-site support during visits, performed initial evaluations on injured athletes to decide appropriate treatment plans. Gill also provided emergency care and arranged for referrals to medical facilities, inventoried training supplies and medical equipment, developed rehabilitation programs, implemented therapeutic modalities and monitored athletes' physical progress.
Prior to her time at Kentucky, Gill completed her undergraduate degree at Eastern Kentucky, where she learned about the field as a student athletic trainer aide. In this position, she learned proper techniques for taping, wrapping and evaluations. She also assisted in the prevention of injuries, developed rehabilitation programs, assisted in field setup for events and inventoried training supplies and medical equipment.
Gill has spent time as a stretch practitioner since 2022 as well. In this role she delivered one-on-one care to clients with a focus on improving mobility, flexibility and comfort, maintained accurate records and ensured adherence to health and safety protocols and communicated with clients about wellness goals.
Gill received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science from Eastern Kentucky University in 2022 and earned a Master of Science in Athletic Training in 2025 from the University of Kentucky.
"I'm both excited and grateful for the opportunity to join Miami Wellness Services, as well as the chance to work with football and cross country/track and field," said Gill. "Miami Athletics is an amazing community, and I am grateful to be a part of it."
