Field Hockey Ranked 18th in Coaches Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Miami University Field Hockey is ranked 18th in the NHFCA Coaches Poll, the NCAA announced Tuesday. The RedHawks received 32 points in the poll following a 1-1 week that included a 7-0 shutout win against a ranked Appalachian State team and a tight 2-1 loss against now fifth ranked Wake Forest in a contest that went to a fifth period.
Despite facing the 13th most difficult schedule in the nation, the RedHawks have racked up season accolades on both the team and individual levels. As a team, Miami is second in the nation in both goals per game with 4.18 and points per game with 11.91, all while leading the country with 131 total points. Additionally, they rank fourth in the country in scoring margin (2.72), fifth in assists per game (3.55), and ninth in penalty corners generated per game (7.64).
Individually, freshmen midfielders Malena Sabez and Justina Intzes are the nation's number one and two freshmen scorers, having scored 11 and 10 goals, respectively, through 11 games. Averaging a goal per game, Sabez is 10th in the nation in scoring. Back Berta Mata ranks eighth in the country in assists per game with .91.
