For their performances last week, Sloane Wearren and Matteo Giampa are Miami's Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of Oct. 6.

Female Winner: Sloane Wearren
Sloane Wearren took six shots over Miami's two games this weekend, putting all six on target. She netted two goals, one against #17 Appalachian State and one on a penalty stroke against #8 Wake Forest that tied the game and sent the RedHawks to overtime. Wearren's efforts helped the RedHawks to a 7-0 win over App State, Miami's first win over a ranked opponent this season. A junior from Louisville, Ky., she is studying Marketing in the Farmer School of Business.

Male Winner: Matteo Giampa
Matteo Giampa scored twice in his Miami debut Friday, including netting what proved to be the game-winning goal on the power play with 3:37 remaining. Giampa scored twice in a game for the first time since Oct. 31, 2024 with Canisius and became the first RedHawk to do so since Jan. 24, 2025, helping the Red and White to a 6-4 comeback victory. He was named the game's First Star. Giampa added an assist on the game-winning goal Saturday (the 40th of his career) as Miami took the lead for good with under three minutes remaining and went on to earn its first home sweep of Ferris State since December 2006. A junior from Virgil, Ontario, he is studying Sport Management in the College of College of Education, Health and Society.
