Field Hockey Ranked 15th in Coaches Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Miami University Field Hockey is ranked 15th in the NHFCA coaches' poll, up three places from 18th last week, the NCAA announced Tuesday. The RedHawks received 70 points in the poll following a 2-0 week that included an 8-0 shutout win against Central Michigan and a 5-0 shutout win over Ball State.
In addition to their national ranking, the RedHawks find themselves among the country's top teams in numerous stat categories. Miami is first in the nation in goals per game and total goals, averaging 4.33 scores per contest with 65 total scores. They also lead the country in assists per game, averaging 4.13 coming off a 10-assist contest on Sunday. They are seventh in the nation in penalty corners per game (8.4) with 126 total corners, first in points per game (12.8), and ninth in shutouts per game (.4).
The RedHawks have also accumulated individual accolades, with multiple players leading the nations's offensive ranks. Coming off a five-goal performance on Sunday, freshman midfielder Malena Sabez continues to lead the country's freshmen in goals per game with 1.27 and is fourth among all players. Freshman Justina Intzes ranks second among freshmen in the same category with 1.07 and 10th in the nation. Additionally, graduate student Berta Mata is tenth in the country in assists per game with 1.07.
The RedHawks will look for their seventh conference win this Friday, Oct. 24 on the road against Ohio at 3 p.m before returning home to face Longwood for their final home game on Friday, Oct 31.
