COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced its weekly award winners this week, and Miami claimed three of the four honors after a road sweep of RPI. Ilia Morozov was named Forward of the Week, Kocha Delic was recognized as Rookie of the Week and Matteo Drobac won Goaltender of the Week. This marks the first time in program history Miami players captured three of the NCHC's weekly awards in the same week.
Playing in just his second weekend of college hockey, the 17-year-old Morozov became the youngest player in program history to score a goal with his first-period tally Friday night (17 years, two months, seven days). The Moscow, Russia native finished with two goals Friday night and added another Saturday en route to a six-point weekend. Morozov put up three points each night in the series, becoming the first RedHawk since Jimmy Mullin in 2012 to collect three points in back-to-back games. He was named the Second Star both nights.
Delic continued his torrid start to the season with five points last weekend. The freshman forward from Ottawa, Ontario has scored a goal in each of the last three games, sealing Friday's Miami win with an empty-net tally and adding a goal in the third period Saturday to break the game open. Delic was named the First Star Friday and earned Third Star honors Saturday. He went +4 in the series finale and was +6 for the weekend as the RedHawks picked up their first road sweep in nearly two years.
Drobac became the first RedHawk goalie ever to win the first four starts of his Miami career, lifting the Red and White to a second consecutive sweep. The sophomore netminder stopped all 26 shots he saw Saturday and was named the game's First Star; in the process, the Oakville, Ontario native became the first goalie to post a shutout for the Red and White since 2023. Drobac added an assist in Friday's win over RPI, becoming just the second Miami goalie in the last five years to be credited with a helper.
Miami Hockey is off this weekend and returns to action Friday, Oct. 24 at Lindenwood.
