No. 3 Western Michigan Outlasts Miami

KALAMAZOO, Mich.– The Miami University hockey team fell by a score of 2-0 at No. 3/4 Western Michigan Saturday. Brett Miller made a season-high 31 saves for the RedHawks (3-19-2, 0-14-0 NCHC). Iiro Hakkarainen and Alex Bump scored a goal apiece for the Broncos (17-4-1, 10-1-1 NCHC), who won their sixth straight game.

The RedHawks return home next weekend to host Arizona State in a conference series for the first time. Puck drop on Friday, Jan. 31 is set for 7:05 p.m. at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 17:10 1st (WMU 1-0) | Western Michigan opened the scoring late in the first period, as Joona Väisänen sent the puck from the point to Samuel Sjolund in the left corner. Sjolund connected with Hakkarainen in front of the goal for a one-timer to put the Broncos on top.
- 6:52 2nd (WMU 2-0) | Off a faceoff win in a 4-on-4 situation, Owen Michaels wrapped around a backdoor pass for Bump to finish, doubling the home team's lead. Brian Kramer had the second assist on the play.
NOTES
- Dylan Moulton and Conner Hutchison led the RedHawks in shots on goal with three apiece.
- Hutchison also had a career-high four blocked shots.
- Miami finished 0-of-2 on the power play and WMU was 0-for-3.
