
RedHawks Drop in Five Sets to Cougars

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Miami University volleyball team (3-2) fell to Chicago State (2-2) in a five-set match (25-12, 25-27, 16-25, 26-14, 15-17) on Friday evening in its second match of the Dunn Hospitality Tournament. Raegan Lantz led all RedHawks with 12 kills, and Ana Vetter followed closely behind with 10 of her own.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami jumped out to a 10-4 lead thanks to a collection of kills and a solo block from Gentry Warrick. The Cougars responded by scoring the next two points before Vetter and Warrick each put down a kill. The Red and White never looked back, taking the first set 25-12.
- Service aces from Hayden Hicks and Emily Morgan made it 4-2 at the start of the second set. Chicago State tied the set at five apiece and went on to extend its lead to 10-7. The Red and White evened the score at 15-15. The rest of the set consisted of back-and-forth action until the Cougars sealed the set 27-25.
- The Cougars began the third set with a 10-2 advantage. Back-to-back solo blocks from Hicks and Warrick brought Miami within four at 11-7. The Cougars attempted to pull away, but Miami stayed within five after a service ace from Ana Vetter as well as a block assist from Warrick and Chelsea Williams. Despite a strong effort, Chicago State took the fourth set 25-16.
- Hicks and Morgan continued their strong serving into the fourth set, each recording a service ace to help the RedHawks to an 8-3 start. The Cougars closed within two at 10-8. Miami responded by scoring the next four points to make it 14-8. Numerous late attack errors by Chicago State gave the Red and White a 26-24 win.
- At the beginning of the fifth set a kill from Lantz and a service ace from Anna McClure made it 4-2 in favor of the RedHawks. Chicago State tied it up at 6-6 before Lantz put down another two kills to help Miami reclaim the lead at 8-7. A pair of service aces from Morgan put the RedHawks ahead at 13-8, but the effort wasn't enough, as the Cougars took the final set 17-15.
NOTES:
- Morgan recorded a career-high four service aces.
- Warrick totaled the most blocks of the game (seven).
