McClure, Perkins Named Miami Athletes of the Week

For their performances last week, Anna McClure and Chris Perkins are Miami's Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of Sept. 2.

Female Winner: Anna McClure
Redshirt sophomore DS/L Anna McClure led Miami Volleyball on defense this past weekend at the Norfolk State Tournament, helping the RedHawks win the tournament and start their season 3-0. McClure saw action in all 10 sets over the weekend, registering 41 digs (4.10/set) and successfully receiving 27-of-28 opponent serves (.964). The Champaign, Ill. native also added four service aces and nine assists over the tournament. In Miami's 3-0 season-opening win against Lamar University, McClure totaled 17 digs, 11 receptions, two assists and a service ace. In a second match sweep versus Gardner-Webb, she produced 14 digs, nine receptions, three assists and one service ace. The following day, she recorded 10 digs, eight receptions, four assists and two service aces to help the RedHawks secure a 3-1 victory over tournament host Norfolk State. McClure, who was named to the Norfolk State All-Tournament Team for her play over the weekend, is studying Strategic Communication in the College of Arts and Science.

Male Winner: Chris Perkins
In his first cross country meet as a RedHawk, Chris Perkins ran for a team-best time of 15:21.7 and finished in second place in the Queen City Invitational in Highland Heights, Ky. on Friday evening. Perkins finished 19 seconds ahead of teammate Victor Orsinelli (fourth place) and 22 seconds behind the first-place runner from host Northern Kentucky. Perkins is a sophomore Chemical Engineering major in the College of Engineering and Computing from Newcastle, England.
