ANN ARBOR, Mich. – On Sunday afternoon, No. 8 University of Michigan narrowly defeated the Miami University RedHawks, 3-2. This puts the Wolverines at 7-1 on the season (1-0 Big Ten) and drops Miami to 5-5 on the season (2-1 Mid-American Conference).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- During a penalty corner with a minute to go in the first quarter, Michigan scored to take a 1-0 lead that they would hold through the end of the quarter.
- The Wolverines scored again and doubled their lead 2-0 just under four minutes into the second quarter during a penalty corner. They held this through the end of the first half.
- Claudia Negrete Garcia split the difference in half 2-1 on a penalty stroke just three minutes into the third quarter.
- With five minutes remaining in the quarter, the Wolverines scored again during a penalty corner to push their lead to 3-1.
- Less than a minute later, Berta Mata scored during a penalty corner off an assist from Henriette Schlueter to make it a 3-2 game.
- The 3-2 score held through the end of the game to give the Wolverines the win.
