HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami grabbed momentum early when Hudson Powell recovered a muffed punt at the Notre Dame 26-yard line just over three minutes into the game. A 21-yard completion to Cade McDonald on a crossing route moved the ball to the five-yard line, but an interception ended the threat.
- The RedHawks marched into Fighting Irish territory again on their next possession, but a fourth-down pass attempt from Brett Gabbert came up incomplete.
- Notre Dame lined up late in the quarter to try and take the lead on a field goal attempt, but after a bad snap, the game remained scoreless.
- The visitors broke through on a 26-yard field goal by Dom Dzioban with 12:36 remaining in the half to go ahead 3-0. Miami out-gained Notre Dame 131 yards to 35 over the first 17-and-a-half minutes of the contest.
- The Fighting Irish closed the half strong with back-to-back touchdown drives to take a 14-3 lead to the locker room.
- Miami's Mychal Yharbrough forced a fumble on the opening possession of the third quarter, which Luke Evans recovered for the Red and White. Although the score remained 14-3 for most of the period, Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love raced 15 yards to the end zone to extend the home team's advantage at the 4:20 mark.
- The RedHawks put together a 14-play drive to get into the UND red zone early in the fourth quarter, but Dzioban's 49-yard field goal attempt with 8:13 to play was blocked.
- After Miami forced the home team into a fourth-down situation at midfield with under six minutes left in the game, Riley Leonard finished the scoring with a 50-yard touchdown run.
