
Miami Drops in Three Sets to Valpo

VALPARAISO, Ind. — The Miami University volleyball team (4-3) dropped to Valparaiso (5-2) in three sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-17) on Friday afternoon in its first match of the Popcorn Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami started the first set with a 2-0 advantage after Valparaiso made an attack error and a bad set. A number of kills from Raegan Lantz helped the visitors stretch their lead to 10-4. The RedHawks brought their lead to 16-7 before the Beacons came back and tied the match at 17-17. Valparaiso took advantage of the momentum shift and claimed the first set 25-21.
- Ava Francis and Lantz each opened the second set with a pair of kills to even the match at eight apiece. Valparaiso answered by scoring the next three points to take an 11-8 lead. Amyah Cooper put down a kill to once again tie the set at 19-19. Despite the late comeback attempt, Miami fell 25-23 at the end of the set.
- The Beacons jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the third set. Anna McClure hit a service ace to bring the RedHawks back within two at 6-4. A pair of kills from Chelsea Williams helped Miami come within three at 12-9, but the Red and White didn't get any closer, dropping 25-17 in the last set.

- Sophie Crawford recorded a team-high 16 assists.
- Warrick totaled seven blocks to lead all players.
