This summer, MiamiRedHawks.com is counting down 10 of Miami Athletics' top moments from the 2023-24 season.
Our list continues today with Miami Skating's record-setting performance to win the program's 22nd collegiate national championship in the final season under head coach Carla DeGirolamo and assistant coach Lee Ann Shoker, who were inducted into the PSA Hall of Fame in May.
Breaking its own national collegiate record with a score of 117.04, Miami Skating captured the Vicki Korn Memorial National Championship Trophy, winning the program's 22nd overall and third consecutive collegiate national title. This punctuated an undefeated season for the RedHawk collegiate team, who extended their string of first-place finishes to eight straight dating back to December of 2022.

Miami Collegiate scored 100 or more points and won every competition in 2023-24.
Skating second among the 12-team field at the national championships, Miami had an exquisite, clean skate to produce a collegiate national-record score, eclipsing the previous record of 116.95 also by Miami at the 2022 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships. Miami finished 8.67 points ahead of its nearest competitors.

This capped the coaching stints of head coach Carla DeGirolamo and assistant coach Lee Ann Shoker, who stepped down from leading the Miami Skating program following the 2023-24 season to each pursue new endeavors. DeGirolamo and Shoker combined for nearly 40 years on the RedHawk synchronized skating staff. It was the 17th national title DeGirolamo was part of as a coach at Miami, including her 11th as a head coach, and was the 14th national championship for Shoker as part of the RedHawk coaching staff. The two were inducted into the Professional Skaters Association Hall of Fame in May 2024, becoming just the fourth synchronized skating coaches to earn this prestigious coaching honor.
