Head coach Glenn Box announced today that JR Shumate has joined the Miami women's basketball staff. Shumate will serve as an assistant coach with the RedHawks.
Â
"I'm thrilled to be joining Miami University as an assistant women's basketball coach," Shumate said. "I cannot wait to work with Coach Box, Coach Wierzba, Coach Belke and Coach Royster. I'm so grateful for all the outstanding coaches, educators, players and families that led me here.
Â
"Miami University and the Oxford community as a whole have such an excellent reputation for high expectations and achievement. I'm extremely excited to get started!"
Â
Shumate has 26 years of high school coaching experience, including most recently serving as the girls basketball coach at Newark (Ohio) High from 2008-2021. Shumate led the Wildcats to four state Final Fours and his program captured seven consecutive district titles. Â
"We welcome Coach Shumate with open arms as we recognize his accomplishments and the fresh excitement we have knowing that we have added a coach with exemplary coaching traits to this staff," said Box.
