OXFORD, Ohio— Miami University head volleyball coach Dan Gwitt has announced the addition of assistant coach Amanda Chamberlain to his staff. Chamberlain most recently served as a coach at Martin High School and Texas Advantage Volleyball Club.
"Amanda Chamberlain's journey from high school standout to collegiate star, and now to coaching, epitomizes her unwavering dedication and passion for volleyball. I've witnessed her growth since her club days, and it's been nothing short of extraordinary," said Gwitt. "She's not just a remarkable player; she's an incredible individual whose commitment to the game extends far beyond the court. Amanda's transition from player to coach showcases her innate ability to inspire and mentor others. She's a testament to hard work, resilience and the enduring spirit of the sport."
While with Martin High School (Arlington, Texas), Chamberlain worked as both a coach and teacher from 2022-2024, helping plan and assess student learning. She assisted the MHS volleyball head coach in planning and conducting practices, providing individualized instruction and analyzing game footage to identify areas of improvement. Chamberlain has also served as a head coach with Texas Advantage Volleyball Club since November 2023, where she was responsible to lead all aspects of the volleyball program. Chamberlain supervised player development, practice planning, game strategy, scouting and team travel.
During two prior stints with NorthPoint Volleyball Club (2014-18 and 2021-2023), Chamberlain oversaw an array of duties in her roles as head coach and assistant club director. She collaborated with the club director to develop, implement and communicate club policies, programs and initiatives. Chamberlain played an important role in the recruitment, evaluation and selection of players for various club levels, directing volleyball clinics and tryouts. She also helped supervise camps and club finances.
Chamberlain attended the University of North Texas, where she competed as a four-year member of the volleyball team from 2014-2017 and produced 1,036 kills. Chamberlain led the Mean Green to a conference title in 2017 and was a part of the winningest class in program history.
She was recognized as a Conference USA All-Freshman player in 2014 and was named First-Team All-Conference in both 2016 and 2017. During her junior year, she led the team with 337 kills and hit .361 (the second-highest hitting percentage in program history). In that same season, she garnered AVCA All-Southwest Region Honorable Mention honors. In her final season with the Mean Green, Chamberlain led the team in kills (348), solo blocks (24), block assists (98) and total blocks (122). Before graduating, Chamberlain set the UNT school record for single-season (.436) and career (.364) hitting percentage. Chamberlain also finished her career with the second-most block assists (302), fourth-most total blocks (372) and ninth-most solo blocks (70) in program history.
Chamberlain is a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, recognizing student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 or better, and was named to the university's President's List in 2017. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 2018 from the University of North Texas. Chamberlain was also a member of Alpha Phi Sigma, a Criminal Justice Honor Society that requires members to hold a 3.2 (or higher) GPA throughout college.
"I am honored to be joining the RedHawk family and so very grateful to Dan, and the university, for the opportunity to coach and mentor these student-athletes. Upon stepping on campus, I already felt welcomed and special, which lets me know this is the best place to be," said Chamberlain. "It means a great deal to me that I get to be a part of a university that has fostered so many great athletes and people that carry on the Miami legacy long after they leave. I look forward to carrying on the tradition of success while making a lasting impact within the university and beyond!"
