SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — The RedHawks took sole ownership of second place Tuesday at the Donald Ross Collegiate Classic (hosted by George Mason University) at the challenging Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club course. Miami swept the individual podium as well, with sophomore
Brett Podobinski, senior captain
Danny Fisher, and freshman
Morgan Blythe taking first, second, and tying for third, respectively, out of 100 total participants.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Podobinski (69-74-66–209), who competed as an individual, won the tournament outright as the only player to finish seven below par over three rounds. The feat came after shooting six below par in round three, which included six birdies and an eagle and tied for the lowest single-round score of anyone in the tournament over the three rounds.
- Fisher (74-68-68–210) shot back-to-back 68s (four below par) in rounds two and three to shoot six below par through three rounds. Fisher made six birdies in round three to cap off his podium finish and help boost Miami to a second-place team finish.
- Blythe (70-70-71–211) finished five below par over three rounds. He had 14 total birdies during the tournament and tied with one other individual for the third-place spot.
- Michael Weber (75-70-73–218) shot one over par in round three and two over par overall. He tied for 20th place individually and made five birdies in round three.
- Matthew Mattioli (74-73-73–220) was also one above par in round three. His three-round score was four over par, tying him for 29th overall.
- Cameron Pero (75-71-75–221), who competed as an individual, totaled five strokes above par. He tied for 34th place.
- Scott Bitar (77-69-76–222) compiled a three-round score of six over par, making ten total birdies. He tied for 38th place on the leaderboard.
- Miami's team score for three rounds was 855, or nine below par. They took second comfortably, beating out third-place Old Dominion by six strokes. They were just one stroke behind first-place Loyola Maryland.
