Collegiate Skaters Win Tri-State Competition

DEARBORN, Mich.—Another strong performance lifted the Miami University collegiate synchronized skating team to its fourth first-place finish of the season as the RedHawks won the Tri-State Competition and the Vicki Korn Memorial Trophy among a five-team field with a score of 105.86 on Saturday morning.

Miami sets its sights on the U.S. National Championships Feb. 23-24 in Las Vegas, Nev. Both teams also will showcase their competitive programs at their annual Nationals Send-Off Exhibition at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena. The Send-Off Exhibition is a free event and open to the public.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami had a clean skate at the Tri-State Competition and notched an executed elements score of 53.34 and a program component score of 52.52.
- MU's score of 105.86 was more than 15 points better than its nearest competitors.
- Western Michigan placed second with a score of 90.38. Trine (87.03), Michigan (85.63) and Michigan State (66.16) rounded out the collegiate field, respectfully.
- The RedHawks have finished first in every collegiate competition so far this season and have recorded seven consecutive first-place finishes dating back to last season.
