Dual Wins for Swim at Miami Classic

OXFORD, Ohio -- The Miami University men's and women's swimming teams finished the weekend with dual wins in the Miami Classic. The women finished first out of three teams with 1,491 points and the men did as well with 1,287.Â

The Women's MAC Championships will take place in Athens, Ohio from Wednesday, Feb. 28 through Saturday, March 2. The men's MAC Championships will be held in Carbondale, Ill. from Wednesday, March 6 through Saturday, March 9.Â

How It Happened:
- The morning events began with the women's 200 medley relay and top finishes came from the A team with, Rylie Turner, Sara Lahrach-Sanchez, Honor Brodie-Foy and Julia Waechter, who finished first with a combined time of 1:42.93 alongside the B team in second with, Rylie Kiefaber, Emma Schueler, McKenzie Reid and Rachel Botting (1:43.47).
- The men finished strong in the 100 butterfly with Henju Duvenhage in first (47.32), Gabriel Perseguin in second (47.90) and Adrian Dulay in third (49.07). For the women, Erin Szczupakiewicz placed third (55.92).
- Following that, in the 400 IM Miami claimed the top spots. For the women, Caitlyn Groff finished first (4:27.53), Kenadie Glasgow in second (4:28.60) and Reese Dismukes in third (4:35.19). For the men, Allen Cotton finished first (3:58.72), Nick Barrows in second (4:00.25) and Paul Brosky in third (4:00.72).
- In the 200 freestyle, Uroš Djokovic finished first (1:38.92), Ian Kmiliauskis in second (1:39.01) and Maguire Sheppard in third (1:39.90). For the women, Greta Kolbeck took first (1:49.09) alongside Kaylin Herbet in second (1:50.25).
- Natalie Gilson and Brady Miller both placed first in the 100 breaststroke, Gilson finishing in 1:02.89 and Miller in 55.73. For the women, Ashley Sego came in third (1:04.09) and for the men, Danila Likitin in second (57.61).
- Following that, in the 100 backstroke, Owen Blazer finished first (49.23) for the men, alongside Ian Van Gorp in second (50.11) and Aidan Jacobs in third (51.47). For the women, Angelina Cakuls came in second (55.59) and Ella Ziegert in third (56.42).
- The morning concluded with the 800 freestyle relay with the men and women both in first. Nicole Maier, Dismukes, Kiefaber and Katheryn Antonowich finished in 7:39.50 while Cotton, Perseguin, Scott Spear and Frye finished in 6:48.24.
- The afternoon kicked off with the 1650 freestyle and top finishes all around. For the women, Maier placed first with a time of 16:32.64 along with Audrey Conley in second (17:02.72) and Antonowich in third (17:10.65). For the men, Barrows placed first (16:05.69) and George Clark in second (16:25.64)
- In the 200 backstroke, Madeline Padavic placed first for the women with a time of 1:57.73 alongside Cakuls in second (1:58.03) and Chrisna Bezuidenhout in third (2:01.03). For the men, Mason Miller finished first (1:49.60), Jacobs in second (1:49.97) and Clark Pabst in third (1:51.35).Â
- In the 100 freestyle, Djokovic finished first (45.64), Kevin Donaldson second (46.46) and Ian Arnold third (46.97). For the women, Brodie-Foy came in first (50.22), Kolbeck in second (50.49) and Taylor Connors in third (50.86).
- Other first-place finishes included Brooke-Lynn Clark (2:20.25) and Benjamin Eichberg in the in the 200 breaststroke (2:02.52) as well as Szczupakiewicz (2:03.40) and Perseguin (1:47.98) in the 200 butterfly.Â
- Second place went to Maddie Zehr (2:20.66) and Ian Wihebrink (2:02.85) in the 200 breaststroke as well as Makayla Hoehn (2:05.87) and Cotton (1:48.17) in the 200 butterfly.
- Final third-place finishers of the day were Caitlin Horn (2:21.37) and Likitin (2:04.61) in the 200 breaststroke and Madison Saldanha (2:06.75) and Spear (1:50.62) in the 200 butterfly.
