Ohio Prevails Over Miami in MAC Championship Game

DETROIT, Mich.– The Miami University football team saw its seven-game win streak snapped Saturday with a 38-3 loss to Ohio in the MAC Championship Game at Ford Field. The RedHawks' record moves to 8-5, while OU improves to 10-3.

 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Miami took a 3-0 lead on the opening drive of the game, moving the ball to the Ohio 11-yard line on Brett Gabbert's third completion to Javon Tracy before Dom Dzioban booted a 29-yard field goal.
  • The Bobcats responded with touchdown drives on all three of their first-half possessions. Parker Navarro gave OU the first-quarter lead with a four-yard touchdown run, and followed that with a one-yard keeper to the end zone the next time Ohio had the ball. The Bobcats closed the half with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Navarro to Mason Williams with 52 seconds remaining in the period, taking a 21-3 lead to the locker room.
  • Ohio picked up where it left off as the second half began, marching 75 yards in six plays for a 28-3 advantage. Navarro found Coleman Owen from 25 yards out for the touchdown. OU added a 52-yard field goal with 3:35 left in the third quarter to make it 31-3.
  • Miami put together a 12-play drive in the fourth quarter before an interception in the end zone ended the scoring threat. Ohio responded with a 21-yard Anthony Tyus III touchdown run at the 6:45 mark to account for the final margin.

NOTES
  • Ty Wise led the Red and White with a season-high 17 tackles, including his fifth sack of the year.
  • Gabbert threw for 127 yards and moved into second place on Miami's all-time list in total offense, passing Ben Roethlisberger (11,075 yards from 2001-03).
  • Matt Salopek became the fifth player in Miami history to reach 500 career tackles.
  • Ambe' Caldwell had a career-high nine tackles.
