RedHawks Start Strong in Miami University Invitational

Oxford, Ohio — The Miami University swimming and diving team kicked off the three-day Miami University Invitational on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, at Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center. After day one the women's team is in second place among four teams, scoring 294 points. The men are in first place among three teams, scoring 358 points. Other placements for the women's teams were Indiana State University (314.5) in first and Ball State University (176.5) in third. Other placements for the men's teams were Dartmouth College (260) in second and Ball State University (218) in third.

How it Happened:

  • Finals for day one started with the women's 200 freestyle relay, where the women's A team took first place. Kaylin Herbet, Madeline Padavic, Natalie Gilson and Julia Waechter turned in a collective time of 1:31.45.
  • The men's 200 freestyle relay was next, where the men's A team finished first and the men's B team finished fourth. Tegan Barrier, Ian Kmiliauskis, Henju Duvenhage and Jack Herczeg posted a collective time of 1:20.33 for the A team. Scott Spear, Kevin Donaldson, Carter McIntosh and Adrian Dulay recorded a collective time of 1:22.25 for the B team. 
  • After that came the women's 500-yard freestyle, where Casey Stephens placed fourth, earning a season-best time of 4:57.70. Audrey Conley came in sixth with a season-best time of 4:57.96.
  • Bryce Menchhofer took first place in the men's 500-yard freestyle, putting up a season-best time of 4:27.58. Yonatan Rosin finished sixth, recording a season-best time of 4:35.53. 
  • Herbet finished first in the women's 200 IM, posting a time of 1:59.33, a personal best. Ashley Sego finished sixth, earning a time of 2:04.62.
  • The men's 200 IM followed, where Duvenhage earned himself a first-place finish, turning in a season-best time of 1:44.78. Owen Hoban finished fifth with a personal best time of 1:49.44.
  • Up next was the women's 50-yard freestyle, where Padavic, Gilson, Taylor Connors, and Waechter finished fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively. Their times were 22.89, 23.10, 23.20 and 23.25 respectively. 
  • Kmiliauskis came away with a second-place finish in the men's 50-yard freestyle, earning a season-best time of 20.30. Herczeg came in third with a season-best time of 20.43, and Barrier finished fifth, posting a time of 20.52.
  • The women's 400-yard medley relay was next, where the women's A team took first place. Padavic, Gilson, Erin Szczupakiewicz and Herbet turned in a collective time of 3:38.64. 
  • The men's 400-yard relay wrapped up swimming events for the day, where the men's A team finished first. Jensen Nelson, Dulay, Duvenhage and Kmiliauskis finished with a collective time of 3:15.68.

UP NEXT: 

The Miami swimming and diving teams will be back tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 6. Preliminaries begin at 9:30 a.m., and finals begin at 5 p.m.
