RedHawks Claim Eighth-Straight MAC Crown With 2-0 Win Over KSU

OXFORD, Ohio – On Friday afternoon the Miami University field hockey team took a 2-0 shutout victory over Kent State University. The RedHawks finish the regular season 10-7 (7-1 Mid-American Conference). Kent State finishes the regular season 6-11 (5-3 MAC). The win gave Miami its eighth-straight MAC Regular Season Championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will host the MAC Tournament Championship Nov. 6-9 in Oxford, Ohio. The schedule of games will be released after the conclusion of the regular season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The RedHawks and Golden Flashes went back-and-forth in the first quarter without causing a change in the 0-0 score.
- Just three and a half minutes into the second quarter, Henriette Schlueter handled the ball well around defenders in the circle to score unassisted and give Miami a 1-0 lead.
- At the half, the RedHawks held the 1-0 lead over the Flashes.
- Paula Peña Martinez doubled the RedHawk lead 2-0 with under five minutes remaining in the third quarter. She was assisted by Schlueter. The RedHawks held this lead through the end of the third quarter.
- Some excellent Miami defense through the fourth quarter held the score at 2-0 and gave Miami the shutout win.
- The RedHawks claimed their eighth consecutive regular season championship.
