Six Former RedHawks on NHL Opening-Night Rosters

Six former Miami Hockey student-athletes are listed on opening-night rosters for the 2024-25 NHL season.
 
Blake Coleman (Calgary), Sean Kuraly (Columbus), Alec Martinez (Chicago), Jack Roslovic (Carolina), Kiefer Sherwood (Vancouver) and Reilly Smith (New York Rangers) will represent the RedHawks in the NHL as the season gets underway. Four of the six players have switched clubs since the beginning of the 2023-24 campaign.
 
Coleman produced a career-best 54 points (30-24-54) last year and now has 251 points over 542 appearances since coming into the league in 2017. He is entering his fourth season in Calgary and owns a pair of Stanley Cup championships (2020 and 2021 with Tampa Bay).
 
Kuraly has played 480 career games since making his NHL debut in 2016, including 62 last year. He owns a total of 136 points in the league (58-78-136) and has been with the Blue Jackets since 2021.
 
Martinez, a three-time Stanley Cup champion (2012, 2014, 2023), joined the Blackhawks in July for the latest chapter in an NHL career that began more than 15 years ago. He has put up 277 points (83-194-277) in 818 NHL appearances and has also played in 131 playoff games between the Kings and Golden Knights. with 14 postseason goals and 23 postseason assists to his credit.
 
Roslovic signed with the Hurricanes during the offseason after spending time with both the Blue Jackets and Rangers last year. He saw action in all 16 playoff games for New York this past spring, putting up eight points (2-6-8). Roslovic has tallied a total of 221 points (80-141-221) in 445 career appearances since making his NHL debut with the Jets in 2017.
 
Sherwood, who played for Miami head coach Anthony Noreen with Youngstown (USHL), will suit up for the Canucks after setting career highs in goals (10), assists (17), appearances (68) and plus-minus rating (+17) with Nashville last year.
 
Smith put up 40 points in a season for the eighth time last year, producing 13 goals and 27 assists for the Penguins. A 2023 Stanley Cup champion with Vegas, Smith joined the Rangers via trade this summer and will look to add to the 513 career points (213-300-513) he's collected through his first 840 regular-season NHL games.
