Season-High Score Lifts Collegiate to Gold at Midwestern Championships

WICHITA, Kansas—A strong skate that produced the second-best collegiate score in program history propelled the Miami University collegiate synchronized skating team to gold at the Midwestern Championships on Saturday evening. Miami amassed a score of 115.85 to win its 14th Midwestern Championship.

Miami's collegiate team will perform at the first intermission of the Friday, Feb. 2 hockey game and next competes at the Tri-State Competition in Dearborn, Mich., on Saturday, Feb. 10. The RedHawk senior team returns to the ice next weekend for the Hevelius Cup in Gdansk, Poland, Feb. 2-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Skating seventh among the eight-team field, the RedHawks had a clean skate and recorded an executed element score of 59.96 and a program component score of 55.89.
- Taking the competition ice for the first time since early December, Miami's score of 115.85 was its best since scoring 116.95 at the 2022 U.S. National Championships and is the second-best collegiate score in program history.
- It was the third time in as many competitions this season that the RedHawks have eclipsed 100 points. The season-high score was nearly 10 points better than its previous season high of 105.86 at the Dr. Porter Classic.
- The RedHawks bested their nearest competitors by nearly 14 points. Northernettes finished second with a score of 101.87, and Trine placed third with a score of 100.73.
- Western Michigan (91.56), Michigan State (84.35), Michigan (76.63), Adrian (68.02) and Illinois (64.50) rounded out the competition field, respectively.
