RedHawks Defeat Eagles 2-1

COLLEGE PARK, Mary. – The Miami University field hockey team battled a tight game to take a 2-1 win over American University on Sunday evening. This moves Miami to 4-2 on the season and drops the Eagles to 3-3.

The RedHawks return home to Oxford, Ohio to take on Longwood University on Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. to open up the Lil Fesperman Invitational.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Under five minutes into the start of the game, Claudia Negrete Garcia scored on a penalty corner to give the RedHawks an early 1-0 lead, which they held through the end of the first quarter.
- Just over two minutes into the second quarter American scored to tie the game at 1-1.
- The game remained tied 1-1 through the end of the second and third quarters.
- Jenna Kirby scored the game winning goal during a penalty corner with less than four minutes remaining in the game to give the RedHawks the 2-1 win. She was assisted by Negrete Garcia.
