COLUMBUS— The Miami University soccer team fell 3-0 at Ohio State in the 2023 season opener Thursday night. Kailyn Dudukovich scored two goals and added an assist for the Buckeyes (1-0-0, 0-0-0 Big Ten).
Dominique Popa played all 90 minutes in goal for the RedHawks (0-1-0, 0-0-0 MAC) and made nine saves in her first collegiate match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Popa made several big saves in the early going to keep the match scoreless, including a highlight-reel stop in the 10th minute.
- The Buckeyes took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute when Dudukovich finished off an assist from Amanda Schlueter.
- OSU doubled its advantage just before halftime, as Dudukovich tallied her second goal of the night in the 44th minute to make it 2-0.
- The home team scored its third goal in the 55th minute, with Dudukovich and Mirann Gacioch assisting Christin Baumbick.
NOTES
- Four Miami freshmen made their collegiate debuts, including Popa and midfielder Kayla Perfect in the starting lineup; Sophia Penegor and Morhéa Hoefen came on as second-half substitutes.
- Caroline Palmer recorded the visitors' only shot on goal.
