RedHawks In Lead After Day One of MAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio-- The RedHawks got the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships started off right by ending the night in first place for both men and women. The Miami women have 22.5 total points and the men have 15 total points.

The MAC Championships continue Friday, May 12 with field events starting at 10 a.m. and track events starting at 1 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- On the field, Ryan Smith finished in third place in the men's javelin throw final with 60.18m. CJ Johnson Jr. also finished in sixth place in the javelin throw final with 52.12m.
- In the men's 400 meter hurdle prelims, Jacob Ranker finished in third place with a time of 52.82 seconds. John Wetula (57.54) and Eman Alfred (58.45) also finished in seventh and eighth place, respectively. All three qualified for the final on Saturday. In the prelims for the 200m dash, Leo Bouldin finished in fourth place with a time of 21.16 seconds and secured his spot in Saturday's final.
- In the men's 10000m run final, Obsaa Feda (30:10.00) and Jake Bertelsen (30:28.82) finished in third and fifth place, respectively.
- In the women's 1500 meter prelims, Annie Christie finished with a time of 4:36.70 and Julia Rushing finished with a time of 4:36.99. They both finished in the top 12 and will compete in the final on Saturday.
- Ava Nuttall finished in first place in the women's 10000m run final with a time of 34:33.80, setting a record for the fastest time on Akron's track! She also now holds second and third place for fastest 10000m times in RedHawk history!
- On the field, Santornya Ralliford (40.70m) and Allie Melchiorre (40.32m) finished in third and fourth place in the women's javelin throw final, respectively. Emily Eterovich finished in seventh place in the women's pole vault final with 3.41m. Â
- So far in the women's heptathlon, Kayla Walters is in ninth place and Lisa Froberg is in 13th. Walters started the competition off strong, finishing in third place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.26 seconds. Walters also placed in the top 10 in the shot put event with 10.49m, and took sixth in the 200m dash portion with a time of 26.17 seconds.
