Miami Gets Off to Great Start at RedHawk Invitational

OXFORD, Ohio-- The Miami University track and field team competed at the RedHawk Invitational this weekend, and got off to a great start on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- To kick off the invitational In the women's 400m hurdles, Gabby Cossio finished in first place with a time of 1:03.87 and Sydney Harmon finished in second place with a time of 1:06.08.
- In the men's 400m hurdles, Miami produced a trio of top-three finishers. Jacob Ranker finished first with a time of 52.46. Josh Mikulka placed second with a time of 55.94, and John Wetula took third with a time of 56.46.
- In the prelims of the women's 200 meter dash, Miami swept the top five spots, led by Abby Suszek (24.71), Ella Scally (25.57) and Rachel Smith (25.98). The RedHawks also claimed the best five finishes in the men's 200m prelims, topped by Leo Bouldin (21.42), Jayson Harrison (21.79) and Julian Wagner (22.14)
- In the women's 3000m steeplechase, Jenna Sayle came in first place with a time of 11:09.92 and Julia Rushing was right behind her with a time of 11:13.12.Â
- In the men's 3000m steeple, Johnny Sayle secured first place for the RedHawks with an impressive time of 9:36.79.Â
- On the field in the men's hammer, Ryan Smith and Blake Presley secured top-five positions. Smith came in second place for the RedHawks at 58.59m, and Presley placed fifth with 49.35m. Ben Riegel finished in the top 10 at 42.89m.
- Also on the field in the women's hammer, Ella Rigel and Addison Hoover earned spots in the top five. Rigel had a fantastic second attempt of 51.93m which helped her secure a second-place finish. Hoover earned her fourth-place finish with a throw of 50.11m.Â
- In the women's 5000m, Hannah Lippincott (18:29.77) finished second as the sole representative for the RedHawks in the event.
- On the field, three RedHawks landed in the top five in women's javelin. Allie Melchiorre came in first (39.22) and Santornya Ralliford came in second (36.84). Rounding out the top five was Lisa Froberg at 28.19.
- Closing out Friday of the invitational was men's javelin, as the RedHawks produced two top-three performers. Ryan Smith came in second with 54.00 and CJ Johnson Jr. had a PR of 50.43 for third. Matthew Howard also had a PR of 42.96 as he finished in fifth.Â
