LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—A powerful short program skate on Friday night in front of an electric crowd that boasted a large U.S. fan base kicked off the Miami University senior team's start to the ISU World Championships in Lake Placid, New York. One of two teams representing the United States among a 23-team field of the best synchronized skating teams in the world, the RedHawks' score of 70.07 puts Miami in fifth place heading into Saturday's free skate.

Miami rounds out its stint at the ISU World Championships with Saturday's free skate, which starts at 3:30 p.m. The event will be streamed on Peacock and the Skating ISU YouTube Channel.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Making its 14th overall and second consecutive appearance at a World Championship, Miami's 70.07 leads the U.S. contingent with the Haydenettes following in sixth place with a score of 64.77. The RedHawks trail Canada's Nexxice (72.17), who is in fourth place, by just 2.10 points.
- Skating 14th of the 23 teams, Miami had a beautifully-executed, clean skate with a technical element score of 36.26 and a program component score of 33.79.
- The RedHawks cracked 70 points for their short program for the second time this season and also in its their second consecutive event.
- Canada's Les Supremes lead the competition field after the short program with a score of 79.00. Finland's Helsinki Rockettes (78.61) and Unique (76.13) round out the top three.
