RedHawks Men's Swim & Dive Sit in First After Day Two of MAC Championships

The Miami University men's swimming and diving team climbed into first on day two of the 2023 MAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday, March 3. With several high placements, the RedHawks finished the day with 289 points, rising above Missouri State University, now in second (257 points) and Ball State University, now in third (187 points).
 
How It Happened:
  • Day two began with the 500 freestyle. Uroš Djokovic landed in the top 10 of program times with his fourth place finish, earning a time of 4:25.70. Also in the championships finals, Yonatan Rosin finished sixth (4:30.04) and Tommy Frye finished eighth (4:42.59). Consolation finals had Evan Kindseth finishing 13th (4:32.95) and Nick Barrows finishing 14th (4:34.51).
  • Henju Duvenhage gave Miami the win in the 200 IM, placing in the top-5 program times and earning an NCAA B cut qualification with his time of 1:44.09. To earn his spot in the finals, Duvenhage broke the MAC, program and pool record with a time of 1:43.70.
  • Alongside Duvenhage in championship finals for the 200 IM were Ian Van Gorp with a top-10 program time in second (1:46.59), Allen Cotton in fourth (1:48.30), Owen Blazer in sixth (1:48.50) and Adrian Dulay in eighth (1:49.54). In consolation finals, Zach Bann placed ninth (1:49.43) and Benjamin Eichberg placed 14th (1:50.92).
  • Jack Herczeg took fifth in the 50 freestyle, earning a time of 20.20. Consolation finals had a ninth-place finish from Mason Miller with a time of 20.32.
  • In the 1-meter diving finals, John Dymond placed third for the RedHawks with a score of 286.05 points. Victor Hearn took eighth in the championship finals, earning 237 points. In consolation finals, David Burke finished 11th with 244.55 points.
  • The day's competition closed out with the 200 freestyle relay, where the Miami A relay team of Herczeg, Duvenhage, Miller and Blazer placed third with a program top-five time of 1:19.78.

The RedHawks continue through the 2023 MAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships with day three on Saturday, March 4. Preliminary events begin at 10:30 a.m. while finals start at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased upon arrival.
