Collegiate Wins Tri States; Senior Places Sixth at Spring Cup

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio/MILAN, Italy—Both Miami University synchronized skating teams were in action on Sunday morning while competing more than 4,400 miles apart. The RedHawk collegiate team seized the Vicki Korn Trophy with a dominant performance at the Tri States Competition in Bowling Green, Ohio, while Miami's senior team placed sixth among a 16-team international field at the Spring Cup in Italy.

Both teams will showcase their competitive programs for the Miami and Oxford communities with their Nationals Send-Off Exhibition on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. in Steve "Coach" Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center. The teams will then head to Peoria, Illinois for the U.S. National Championships March 3-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED TRI STATES:
- Miami's collegiate team cracked 100 points for the first time this season, compiling a season-high score of 101.39 behind a clean skate at the Tri States competition.
- The RedHawks placed first among the five-team field to capture the Vicki Korn Memorial Trophy, named after the late former long-time coach of Miami synchronized skating.
- MU's first-place score bested its nearest competitor by more than 15 points.
- Western Michigan (86.00), Delaware (85.07), Michigan (82.99) and Trine (81.58) rounded out the competition field, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED SPRING CUP:
- One of two teams representing the United States at the Spring Cup, Miami's senior team finished sixth with a combined score of 192.56.
- Miami had a clean skate on Sunday, amassing a free skate score of 131.93 with a technical element score of 68.79 and a program component score of 63.14.
- The RedHawks finished more than eight points ahead of Italy's seventh-place Hot Shivers (184.36).
- Canada's Les Supremes won the Spring Cup with a combined score of (231.81). Finland's Unique (230.84), Canada's Nexxice (228.41), Finland's Dream Edges (222.21) and the other U.S. team at the competition, Skyliners (205.39), rounded out the top five respectively.
- The Spring Cup is part of the Challenger Series Synchronized Skating, which consists of up to five international competitions linked together to provide adequate opportunities for many teams to compete at the international level and earn World Standing Points while also preparing to compete at the ISU Championships. The Spring Cup's competition field is comprised of 16 teams representing 10 different countries.
