OXFORD, Ohio– Rashad Amos rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns and the Miami University football team blanked Akron 19-0 in Mid-American Conference action Wednesday night.

The RedHawks improve to 8-2 and remain in first place in the MAC East with a 5-1 league record. The Zips fall to 2-8 on the year (1-5 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Miami marched the ball 75 yards on nine plays to open the game, capping the drive with a one-yard rush by Amos. Eight of the RedHawks' nine plays were runs, including a 40-yarder by Amos to get Miami in the red zone.
The RedHawks' defense took over from there, highlighted by a Matt Salopek interception and four first-half Miami sacks. The Red and White held Akron to 92 yards before intermission.
Graham Nicholson extended Miami's lead with five minutes remaining in the half, adding a 35-yard field goal to make it 10-0 at the break.
After Salopek made fourth-down tackles on two consecutive Akron possessions to give the ball back to the RedHawks' offense, Miami capitalized with a five-play, 68-yard scoring drive. Two plays after a roughing-the-passer penalty gave the home team a fresh set of downs, Amos raced 30 yards down the left sideline to find the end zone. The extra point was blocked, keeping the RedHawks' lead at 16-0 with 1:46 remaining in the third period.
Miami tacked on three more points on its next possession, using a nine-play, 40-yard drive to set up another Nicholson field goal. The junior buried a 32-yard kick to put the Red and White up 19-0 with 8:55 to play.
Akron came the closest to scoring on a late fourth-quarter drive that brought the Zips to the Miami five-yard line, but Yahsyn McKee ended the threat with an interception in the end zone to give the RedHawks the ball back at the 3:50 mark.

NOTES

The RedHawks recorded their second shutout of the season, marking the first time since 1998 that Miami has shut out multiple opponents in the same year.
Salopek's interception was the first of his career.
Nicholson is now 19-for-19 on field goals this season.
Miami's defense accounted for six sacks, led by a career-high three from Ty Wise.
Amos has a rushing touchdown in six of Miami's last seven games and posted his third 100-yard game of the year.
McKee made a career-high 10 tackles.
Miami allowed just 36 rushing yards, the lowest opponent total since a 2020 win over Akron.

Miami will host Buffalo next Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at Yager Stadium and can clinch a trip to the MAC Championship Game with a victory.
