Tretter’s Putback Downs Xavier in Overtime, 58-57

OXFORD, Ohio – Freshman Amber Tretter's putback with 6.5 seconds remaining gave the Miami University women's basketball team a 58-57 overtime win over Xavier on Monday evening. The win was the first for head coach Glenn Box.
Jadyn Scott had a team-high 16 points for the RedHawks (1-3). She was joined in double figures by Lakresha Edwards (14) and Katey Richason (11). Mackayla Scarlett led Xavier (0-6) with 22 points.

How it Happened:
- Edwards and Jadyn Scott combined to score Miami's first 10 points and a layup from Richason put Miami up 12-8 at the first media timeout. Miami's defense surrendered just three points in the final five minutes of the quarter as Miami pushed their advantage to 18-11.
- Xavier cut the deficit to five, 22-17, but Maddy Huhn knocked in a pair of buckets and Edwards made her third triple of the contest to extend Miami's advantage to 29-17 with two minutes remaining in the half. Miami led 29-20 at the half.
- Xavier opened the second half on a 15-4 run and took their first lead of the game at 35-33, forcing a Glenn Box timeout. Seven combined points from Richason and Jadyn Scott in the final three minutes of the third knotted the score at 40 heading to the final stanza.
- Edwards' fourth three-pointer of the game unlocked a 45-45 tie with 6:05 to play. A Richason layup with 2:13 to play gave Miami a 50-46 lead, but Xavier answered with a triple on the ensuing possession for a one-point game with 2:02 remaining. Hennessey Luu-Brown connected on a pair from the foul line with 14 seconds remaining to extend Miami's advantage to three, but Xavier drilled a triple from five feet behind the arc with 5.6 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.
- Jadyn Scott opened overtime with a layup, but Xavier scored the next five to claim a 57-54 lead. Richason and Tretter each split a pair from the charity strip to close the gap to 57-56 with 90 seconds to play. Xavier missed a triple with 15 seconds to go and Jadyn Scott's reverse layup was rebounded by Tretter and put back for the game-winning bucket with 6.5 seconds to play.
Game Notes:
- Miami started four freshmen for the first time this season (Lakresha Edwards, Maddy Huhn, Núria Jurjo and Amber Tretter.
- Lakresha Edwards finished the contest with a career-best 14 points.
- Miami had a season-high four blocks in the game.
- Miami forced a season-high 22 turnovers and turned that into 16 points off turnovers, also a season-best.
- Katey Richason recorded the second double-double of her career with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
