Miami Drops to Ohio in Three Sets

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team dropped in three sets to Ohio Friday evening at Millett Hall. The visiting Bobcats won by a score of 26-24, 25-19, 26-24. Miami moves to 5-17 (1-9 MAC) on the season, while Ohio improves to 11-11 (6-4 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The RedHawks opened the match by scoring the first two points, but Ohio responded with a 4-0 run to take a 4-2 advantage. Miami used a Brooke Jackson kill and Maggie McCrary service ace to regain the lead at 5-4. Competition remained tight at 14 apiece after the Bobcats suffered an attack error at the midpoint of the set. Miami took its first three-point advantage of the set at 19-16 after Ellie Hanson knocked down a kill. The Bobcats did not give in, as they went on to close the first set with a 26-24 victory.
The second set started off with close action between each team. Miami trailed 8-7 before Ohio went on a 5-0 run to extend their lead to 13-7. The Bobcats Looked to finish the set off at 20-11, but the Red and White responded with an 8-3 run of their own to come within four at 23-19. At the end of the set, Ohio fended off the RedHawk attack and won the set 25-19.
The Red and White jumped out 9-6 at the start of the third set thanks to three early kills from Gentry Warrick. Miami maintained their advantage at 15-10 after Hanson put down back-to-back kills. Miami looked to finish the Bobcats push at 23-20, but Ohio found their rhythm to seal the set 26-24.
