Akron Holds Off Miami 77-66

OXFORD, Ohio— Sierra Morrow posted her first double-double as a RedHawk with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but Akron held off the Miami University women's basketball team by the score of 77-66 Saturday afternoon at Millett Hall. Ivy Wolf led Miami (5-10, 0-2 MAC) with 17 points, while Maddi Cluse added 16 and Peyton Scott chipped in 13. Akron (11-2, 2-0 MAC) won its sixth straight contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Morrow got the RedHawks off to a good start with a three-pointer on Miami's first possession. The home team never trailed in the opening period, as Morrow and Scott poured in nine points apiece to spark the offense. Miami took its biggest lead of the quarter at 24-14 on a deep jump shot by Katey Richason and settled for a 24-16 margin after 10 minutes. The RedHawks put up 11 points off Akron turnovers in the quarter.
- Akron used a 12-2 run to pull into a 26-26 tie with six minutes remaining in the half, but Wolf drained a three-pointer from the left corner to put Miami back on top. Back-to-back buckets from Scott restored a seven-point cushion, but Akron rattled off 10 consecutive points to take its first lead of the afternoon. Cluse buried a three-pointer on Miami's final possession of the period to make it 36-36 at intermission.
- The Zips started the second half on a 10-0 run, but Miami battled back to close within 52-48 on baskets by Morrow and Wolf before Scott picked up her fourth foul with 2:58 remaining in the period. Akron took a 54-50 advantage into the final quarter.
- Miami began the final period with a 9-2 run to take a 59-56 lead after a creative play by Wolf where she inbounded the ball off a defender and laid it in. However, the Zips responded with an 11-0 spurt to go ahead for good and made enough free throws down the stretch to escape with a 77-66 win.
NOTES
- Akron finished the game 27-32 from the foul line; Miami was 9-13.
- Morrow matched her Miami career high in points (14) and blocks (3) and set new highs in rebounds (10) and three-pointers made (2).
- The RedHawks outrebounded the Zips 37-33.
