OXFORD, Ohio— Peyton Scott scored 16 of her 23 points in the first half as the Miami University women's basketball team defeated Central Michigan Saturday afternoon at Millett Hall. Maddi Cluse contributed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the RedHawks (8-13, 3-5 MAC). Ivy Wolf added 16 points and Amani Freeman put up 12. Sydney Harris led the Chippewas (4-15, 2-6 MAC) with 24 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Although Central Michigan got out to an early 14-6 lead, Miami answered back with a three-point play from Cluse inside. Amani Freeman followed with a post move and basket for two of her six points in the quarter to close the deficit to a single possession. The RedHawks trailed 17-14 after 10 minutes of play.
Scott set the tone for the Red and White to start the second period. The senior guard racked up points on each of Miami's first four trips to give the RedHawks their first lead. After CMU responded to re-take the lead at 27-25, Miami promptly ripped off a 9-2 run, capped by a Wolf triple. Freeman's three-point play with 22 seconds to play in the period would later match Miami's biggest lead of the half at four points (39-35), with the RedHawks settling for a 39-36 margin heading to the locker room.
Miami outscored the Chippewas 20-17 in the third to claim a six-point advantage (59-53) on Cluse's layup in the closing seconds. Scott and Wolf each had five points in the quarter and Sierra Morrow added four.
The RedHawks maintained a slim cushion through the fourth period, with CMU pulling within 61-59 at the seven-minute mark. Four straight Katey Richason free throws spotted Miami a 69-62 lead with four minutes to play, as the Red and White would convert 10 of 12 foul shots in the quarter (83.3%). Miami's largest lead of the game was nine points, the final margin.

NOTES

Cluse recorded her seventh double-double of the season.
Wolf has now scored at least 15 points in all but two games this season. She also played in her 50th career game on Saturday.
Morrow blocked four shots for the RedHawks.
Scott's 23 points matched her season high. The Lynchburg, Ohio native moved into fourth all-time with 609 career field goals made.
