ROCKFORD, Ill.—Competing for the first time since early December, the Miami University collegiate synchronized skating team wasted no time returning to top form, seizing gold at the Midwestern Championships on Saturday evening. The RedHawk collegiate team amassed a score of 97.33 to win its 13th Midwestern Championship title.

The collegiate team is idle from competition until Sunday, Feb. 19 when it competes at the Tri State Competition in Bowling Green, Ohio. Miami's senior team returns to the ice for the Spring Cup in Milan Italy Feb. 18-19. Miami's collegiate team also will showcase its competitive program during the first intermission of the Friday, Feb. 17 Miami Hockey game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Skating third among the seven-team field, Miami had a clean skate and notched a program component score of 44.76 and an executed element score of 52.57 en route to its score of 97.33.
- The RedHawks bested second-place Michigan (88.99) by more than eight points and finished more than 10 points ahead of third-place Trine (86.13).
- Western Michigan (84.68), Adrian (80.60), Michigan State (80.12) and Illinois (68.41) rounded out the Midwestern Championship field, respectively.
