RedHawks Begin 2023 With Strong Performance at Gladstein Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— The Miami University indoor track and field team had a strong performance at the Gladstein Invitational this weekend in the first meet of 2023.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The distance squad ran in the 3000m fast section and the women's mile. The RedHawks had three runners compete in the race. Ava Nuttall finished in first with a time of 9:44.78. Annie Christie took third place with a time of 9:51.72, and Gianna Labbiento finished fifth with a time of 10:22.04. The RedHawks had two top-10 performances in the mile. Carmen Riano finished in second place with a new personal best of 4:53.29, beating her previous record by one second. Nuttall finished in seventh place with a time of 5:07.96; the junior topped her previous personal bests in both the 3000M and the mile.
  • On the field, Taylor Manley finished second in the women's triple jump with 11.73m. Sara Cupp was the highest placing RedHawk in the women's weight throw, taking 17th place with 11.2m. Cupp was also the RedHawks' top-placing shot put thrower, as she came in 12th place.
  • Camryn Dunn represented the RedHawks in the women's 60m and finished in second place with a time of 7.64. The RedHawks had one runner compete in the women's 600m, as Gretchen Feldkamp finished in sixth place with a time of 1:41.98. Miami also had three top-10 runners in the women's 800m. Marta Cepeda Pérez finished in first place with a time of 2:15.82, Nora Zubillaga was right behind her with a second-place time of 2:16.57, and Elena Pazman finished in seventh with a time of 2:20.56. The women's 4x400 squad finished in sixth place with a time of 3:58.68.
  • The unattached RedHawk men had 2 top-10 finishers in the 60m race. Julian Wagner finished fifth with a time of 6.98, and Jacob Ranker came in sixth place with a time of 6.99. Charlie Harders (8:17.18) and Mhalicki Bronson (8:25.97) both took first and second place in the 3000m race. The unattached RedHawk men also had four top-10 finishes in the mile race. Jake Bertelsen came in second with a time of 4:12.73, Andrew Schroff came in third with a time of 4:13.04, Obsaa Feda came in fourth with a time of 4:15.68, and Max Polak came in sixth with a time of 4:16.88. Ryan Smith led the RedHawk men on the field as the senior finished in second place in the men's shot put while also competing unattached.
WHAT'S NEXT:
            The RedHawks travel back to Bloomington, Ind. next week for the Indiana Relays on January 27 and 28.
