OXFORD, Ohio – On Friday afternoon, the Miami University field hockey team defeated MAC opponent Appalachian State University 3-2. The win brings the RedHawks to 7-4 on the season and 3-0 in MAC competition. The loss drops the Mountaineers to 4-5 on the season and 1-2 in MAC competition.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Just under four minutes into the first quarter, Claudia Negrete Garcia scored the RedHawks' first goal during a penalty corner to bring the score to 1-0. She was assisted by Macy McHale and Luli Rosso.
- During another penalty corner with just over five minutes left in the quarter, Paula Peña Martinez scored, bringing Miami's lead to 2-0. She was assisted by McHale and Kennedy Vinson.
- Negrete Garcia scored again during a penalty corner with less than three minutes left in the quarter, bringing Miami's lead to 3-0. She was assisted by Berta Mata.
- The RedHawks held their 3-0 lead through the end of the first quarter.
- The Mountaineers scored with 7:36 left in the second quarter, bringing the score to 3-1.
- During a penalty corner with 2:35 remaining in the half, the Mountaineers scored again, bringing the score to 3-2, which remained through the end of the first half.
- The score remained unchanged through the third and fourth quarter with the RedHawks winning the competition 3-2.
