Miami Snatches Conference Victory With 3-0 Win Over CMU

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – In Sunday afternoon's rain, the Miami University's women's soccer team (5-2-2; 1-0-1 MAC) dominated the Central Michigan University's women's soccer team (1-6-2; 0-1-1 MAC) to a 3-0 Mid-American Conference triumph.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the 20th minute, a Central Michigan defender misjudged the bounce of senior Kennedy Gray's clearance. Seizing the opportunity, sophomore Makenna Morrison outran the defender towards goal before sliding the ball through the goalkeeper's legs from the edge of the byline, putting Miami up 1-0.
  • Just over five minutes later, junior Taylor Hamlett forced a save from Central Michigan's goalkeeper with a close-range shot. Sophomore Sophia Cross was quick to react and tapped the rebound into the open goal, extending the lead to 2-0 for the RedHawks.
  • At the 68th minute mark, from the deep on the right flank, sophomore Kylee Beinecke swung in a cross towards the far post for Morrison to find the net with a half-volley, sealing a 3-0 victory for the RedHawks.

NOTES:
  • After making her debut as a substitute on Thursday against Ball State, Hamlett made her first start for the Miami RedHawks today.
  • Miami's defense is among the meanest in the MAC, allowing just six goals so far this season.
  • Senior Izzie Vaccari recorded her fifth shut-out of the season., and, for Morrison, her fifth goal.
  • The RedHawks outshot the Chippewas nine to four in the first half and 14-8 over the course of the match.
