Miami Begins Conference Play Against Rival Ohio University

THIS WEEKEND: Miami faces rival Ohio University in the Battle of the Bricks this Friday Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. and Saturday Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. Each match will take place at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio and air on ESPN3/ESPN3.
ABOUT OHIO UNIVERSITY: Head Coach Geoff Carlston made his return to Ohio University last season, after previously taking over the Ohio State Volleyball program from 2008-2018. The last time Coach Geoff coached the Bobcats was from 2003-07. In his first season back, he led the Bobcats to a 12-19 record and went 11-7 in MAC play. This year Ohio University holds a 6-5 record, after most recently partaking in the Bulldog Brawl. They competed against Butler University, the University of Missouri, and the University of Notre Dame. The Bobcats defeated Butler, but lost their matches against Missouri and Notre Dame. Middle blocker Caitlin O'Farrell leads the head of the Bobcats offense, ranking seventh in the MAC for kills and eighth for total points scored. Setter Tria McLean ranks seventh in the MAC in assists and defensive specialist/libero Sam Steele finds herself at third in digs.
TELEVISION: Each of Miami's matches against Ohio University will be aired on ESPN3/ESPN3.Â

BATTLE OF THE BRICKS: A rivalry that dates back to 1979, Friday will mark the 92nd meeting between Miami and Ohio University. This is followed by the 93rd match on Saturday. The last match took place on Nov. 6 of 2021 in Oxford, Ohio at Millett Hall. The Bobcats pulled out a close five-set match, winning 17-15 in the last set. The Red and White last beat Ohio on Mar. 13 of 2021 at home. The RedHawks hold an away record of 17-18 and lead the series 53-39 all-time.Â
MAC NUGGETS: Two RedHawks rank among MAC statistical leaders after the fourth weekend of competition. Freshman Hayden Hicks ranks ninth in assists per set (6.67/set). Through 42 sets, she has totaled 280 assists. Hicks notched a career-high 48 assists against Bradley in the first week of competition and added 44 more to her total this past weekend. Freshman Brooke Jackson ranks tenth in the MAC for service aces per set (0.36/set). In 44 sets she has totaled 16 service aces.
SENIOR LEADERSHIP: A key contributer during her time at Miami University, Allyson Severance has made her mark on the volleyball program. Coach Condit has had high praise for the senior, touching on her energy throughout the season and the impact it has on her teammates. Through the season up to this point, Severance has averaged 2.98 kills per set (125 total) and added 95 digs.
YOUTH MOVEMENT: Freshman Ellie Hanson, Gentry Warrick, Hayden Hicks, and Brooke Jackson have made an early impact on the season. Hanson has led the offensive charge, recording 3.05 kills per set (131 kills total) and also leading the team with 127 total digs. Warrick has shown up on defense with a team-high 21 blocks on the season and Hicks has been a key facilitator, leading the team in assists with a total of 280. Jackson wore the libero jersey for the first time in Miami's victory against Duquesne University and has been a versatile player for the RedHawks. She also leads the team with 16 service aces.
20/20 VISION: In a tight five-set match against Xavier on Sept. 15, the RedHawks had two players surpass 20 digs and another record more than 25 assists. Ellie Hanson recorded 27 digs, while Brooke Jackson notched an additional 21 digs for the RedHawks. Hayden Hicks continued to lead the team in assists, amassing 26 in this game.
ECLIPSING 750 CAREER WINS: With a 3-0 win versus Buffalo on Jan. 22, 2021, Miami head coach Carolyn Condit posted her 750th career win. Condit owns a 774-593 career record in her 43rd season as a head coach. Condit's 774 total victories are tied for eighth among active NCAA Division I coaches, and tied for 23rd all-time. Owning more victories than any coach in any sport in the history of Miami's storied athletic department, known as the Cradle of Coaches, Condit holds a 675-515 record and is in her 39th season in charge of the Red and White. Condit is the only volleyball coach in the history of the Mid-American Conference to win more than 300 league matches, holding a conference mark of 373-231.
