OXFORD, Ohio – On Sunday afternoon the Miami University field hockey team downed Ohio State University 1-0. This is the first goal Ohio State has allowed all season. The win takes the RedHawks to 3-3 on the season and drops the Buckeyes to 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Following a strong defensive first quarter from the RedHawks, where they defended three penalty corners, the score remained 0-0.
- With four seconds left in the second quarter, Claudia Negrete Garcia scored on a penalty stroke, giving the RedHawks a 1-0 lead through the end of the first half.
- After defending six penalty corners, the RedHawks held their 1-0 lead through the end of the third quarter.
- The RedHawks continued their lead through the fourth quarter and defeated the Buckeyes 1-0.
- With this win Isabelle Perese became Miami's all-time shutout leader with 19.
- Miami has now won 5 of the last 9 games against Ohio State and has outscored the Buckeyes 19-13 in that period.
