Schlecht Volley Hands Miami 1-0 Win Over Loyola Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. – On Sunday afternoon, the Miami University women's soccer team recorded its first win of the season by taking down Loyola University Chicago 1-0. With the victory, Miami improves to 1-0-1 on the season, while the Ramblers fall to 1-3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the 15th minute, sophomore Makenna Morrison laid off a pass into the run of freshman Caroline Palmer. Morrison then dashed into the penalty box but could not get on the end of the subsequent grounded cross.
  • At 37:28, senior Kennedy Gray picked up a stray pass from the opposition and drove towards goal from the left flank. From just outside of the penalty area, Gray bent in a low shot with her right foot but the ball went inches wide of the right post.
  • In the 52nd minute, junior Camber Hayes sent a corner kick from the left side into the path of redshirt junior Madeline Schlecht, who was unmarked. The defender broke the deadlock from the six-yard box with a right-footed volley, making it 1-0 for Miami.
  • The RedHawks held on to preserve the shutout victory. Miami has not allowed a goal in the last 190:42 of game action (dating back to last season).

NOTES:
  • The RedHawks fended off all eight corner kick attempts by Loyola, as well as 14 shot attempts by the hosts.
  • Schlecht and junior Haley Anspach made their first start of the season.
  • Senior Izzie Vaccari recorded her second shutout of the season and 12th of her career.
