KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Miami University track & field team entered day one of the 2022 Mid-American Conference Championships on Thursday, May 12 at Western Michigan University. Both the men's and women's teams finished the day in fifth place overall; the men's team earned six points against four other schools, while the women's team earned 11 points against 10 other schools.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Marta Cepeda Pérez led off the track events of the day by earning second place in the women's 400 hurdles preliminary event with a time of 1:01.70.
Luke Finnegan and Leo Bouldin both qualified in the men's 200 dash preliminary event, with Finnegan (21.70) taking fifth and Bouldin (21.86) taking seventh.
In the women's 10000 run, Ava Nuttall placed third with a time of 34:20.09. Mhalicki Bronson and Max Polak also earned points in the men's 10000 run; Bronson (30:30.00) placed fifth and Polak (30:35.72) placed sixth.
Allie Filiatraut and Tyree' Fletcher both claimed points for the RedHawks in the women's javelin throw. Filiatraut (35.33m) took fifth and Fletcher (31.47m) took eighth.
Other Miami athletes who claimed points in field events included Ben Artrip (3.50m) who claimed sixth in the men's pole vault and Ryan Williams (55.52m) who claimed fifth in the men's javelin throw.
Ben Artrip represented Miami in the first day of the men's decathlon, including placing second in the men's decathlon shot put with a distance of 13.89m. Kayla Walters and Lisa Froberg competed for the RedHawks in the women's heptathlon, taking top-five finishes in multiple events.
